Where can I File a Police Report?
Anyone wishing to file a non-emergency police report can contact the South Bend Police Department by phone or in-person during the following times:
- Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 11:00 pm
- Observed City Holidays (see list here) 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
- Closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

What kind of reports can I file by phone or in-person?
Public Service Officers can take the following incident reports by phone:
- Found/Lost Property
- Gas drive offs
- Harassing phone calls
- Larceny (Including vehicles and license plates)
- Preliminary reports for Child Protective Services
- Supplemental reports (Additional information for a report already taken)
- Vandalism (Except gang graffiti)
The following types of reports must be done at the front desk in person:
- Assault not involving serious injuries
- Cancelation of Missing or Runaway Person report
- Fraud
- Missing Persons and Escapees
- Motor Vehicle Theft
- Report a Runaway
- Shoplifting reports

- Threat reports
For some incident types, the Public Service Officer will need to send an Officer to the scene. If the incident you call about cannot be reported by phone, the Public Service Officer will advise you on the appropriate steps.
The following types of calls require that a person filing a report must meet with an officer in-person:
- Accidents and Public accidents
- Arson
- Assault resulting in serious injuries
- Burglary
- Cancelation of Motor Vehicle Theft
- Officer must be dispatched, OR
- Complainant AND Vehicle must be present at the South Bend Police Department
- Cancelation of Runaway report
- Domestic Violence
- Homicide
- Rape
- Robbery
