Report Traffic Signal Outages

If you see a traffic signal that’s flashing, not working or completely out — or if a pedestrian signal or push-button isn’t working — you can report it one of two ways:

  • Call 311
    • During business hours (7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.), a 311 liaison will assist you.
    • After hours, follow the 311 prompts to report a Street Emergency.

  • Submit an online service request at any time.

NOTE: This process is not for reporting signal timing issues or requesting new traffic signals. To do that, refer to the Report a Traffic Concern article.

What Information Should I Provide?

When reporting a traffic signal issue, provide the following details:

  • Location details:
    • Intersection name (e.g., Lafayette and South)
    • Direction of travel (e.g., northbound on Lafayette)
    • Time of day the issue occurred

  • Description of the problem:
    • Is the signal flashing? If so, what color?
    • Is the signal completely out in all directions or only partially?
    • Are any pedestrian signals or walk/wait buttons not functioning?

  • Your name and phone number in case follow-up is needed.

Response Time

Traffic & Lighting crews will inspect and repair issues as soon as possible. If repairs cannot be made right away, temporary measures—such as portable stop signs—will be put in place to ensure safety.
