The South Bend Fire Department conducts Inspections to ensure businesses are in compliance with International and Local codes and ordinances.

Where do Commercial Fire Inspections occur?

Commercial Fire Inspections may occur in any Commercial occupancy, but are required annually for any establishment that serves food to the public.

Who is involved in Commercial Fire Inspections?

The South Bend Fire Department Inspectors are specially trained and certified to conduct fire inspections.  Each Inspector is responsible for a geographical area of the City, but is available as a resource for others.

When do Commercial Fire Inspections occurr?

Mandatory inspections for Commercial Properties that serve food to the public are performed on an annual basis.  All other Commercial Properties should expect to have inspections every two years, but could recieve a visit from a Fire Inspector at any time.

Food Serving Commercial venues apply for an annual license and the annual Fire Inspection must be completed prior to receiving or renewing your license.  The process would begin through the Department of Community Investment and more information can be found here.
